Bath Time!

Ever since Yaeli was about 2 months, we have been giving her a bath almost every night.  We fill up the bath tub (the regular full size one) with water and either Jonny or I will get in there with her.  My mom first showed me this method of washing a baby and we find it much easier then using the small baby bath tub.

We started doing it every night because I read that it is important for babies to have a regular bedtime routine and a bath can be calming for them.   Back then,  we were doing almost everything we could to get her to sleep longer.  Now that its routine, its nice to get her clean every evening.

It has become a really nice bonding time.  There is something special about feeling the skin-to-skin with her in the water.  It is also really fun to see her splashing around and enjoying the water.  The first couple of times we gave Yaeli a bath she cried and hated it.  But after a few times, she started to really like bath time.  Now, she doesn't even cry after the bath when she gets dressed in a cooler room.

We are very cautions not to step in and out of the bath with her.  So, one of us will get in the bath and the other person will hand her over.  In the bath, I usually just hold her by the head and she is able to float on the water.  She also likes to kick the water with her feet.  I also love sitting her up against me.  It's a great way to cuddle and she seems to become instantly calmer by it.  To wash her, I just lay her on my lap and her head is perfectly above the water.  I use either my hand or a wash cloth to soap her down.  I try to say each part of the body as I wash it.....I figure its a great way for her to learn her body parts.

Overall, I'm really glad that its part of her routine and both Jonny and I really enjoy it.
