My Smart Girl!

Almost 11 months

She has become one smart and clever little baby!

When she first start pulling herself up, she quickly realized that she can get pacifiers from her crib.  If she's playing in her room, she learned to pull herself on the outside of her crib and grab pacifiers from inside.

Ever since we started using the high chair, she's been throwing stuff onto the floor.  I quickly learned to only give her soft toys in the high chair.....so that the plastic toys don't damage the floor.  When we started giving her finger snacks (cheerios, crackers, apple, etc.), she started tossing those too.  Tired of playing the pick-up game, I made a rule that if she threw something on the floor, I was not going to pick it up.  She needs to learn not to toss things on the floor. Well, my smarty pants not only learned this lesson, but figured out that if she doesn't want something, she can simply throw it off her high chair.  If she doesn't want anymore of the food I'm giving her, she takes it from my hand and tosses it.  On the changing table or in the stroller, if she's tired of playing with a toy, she will simply throws it 'overboard'.  Oy!

When she started pulling herself up in her crib, sometimes her pacifier would fall out of her mouth onto the floor.  She saw that we would always pick those up and used it to her advantage.  All of a sudden we saw that she started throwing all of her pacifiers out of her crib on purpose.  I watched on the camera how she picked them up with her hand and tossed over the rail.  Since she can't fall asleep without a pacifier, we were forced to go into her room to pick them all up.  Well....now at every nap and bedtime, she starts playing this game to get us to come into her room.   I'm still working on resolving this, but what seems to work is to let her cry for a few minutes after she tossed all the pacifiers out of her crib.  That way, when I put them back in, she didn't do it again.  Also, if I do have to go back in, I don't look at her or touch her.  That way the gratification isn't there. It's working most of the time now.

I can't believe that she's only 11 months and already doing such clever things!

It's a constant challenge adjusting to her wisdom and creativity.  But, I'd rather have a kid like this than a more passive one. I'm looking forward to what she thinks up next.
